Just saying...
I have missed most of the MJ tributes as I don’t have cable, and I just turn the TV off when I don’t want to watch things instead of complaining about it. I just want to listen to the music. I don’t care what every random celebrity has to say about him, but I am hugely impressed at the sheer number of people who are really touched by this.
I have noticed that of my friends it is only the white ones who are saying things like “when the next child molester dies are we all going to celebrate?!”
These moments where the white friends don’t get how much of an inspiration certain minority performers can be to other people of that background, when they know lots of people of that background, are always odd to me.
It has the added bonus of being effed up since MJ was never convicted of anything.
I hate these moments when my friends, who would veraciously defend themselves as liberals, get stupid and stop living what they preach. It’s exhausting.
Personally, I can’t expect others to respect the “innocent until proven guilty” rule if I won’t.
If MJ had written and tried to market a book called “If I Did It,” that would be another story. MJ may have been weird, really weird, but he didn’t do that.
